‘Aquaflight’, was commissioned by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council for the new Weald Sports Centre in Cranbrook. The piece is of flowing design, comprising figures caught up in river of motion and incorporating the local symbol of a crane. The mosaic, made out of Portugese ceramic tiles with gold and silver highlights, stretches 26m along the poolside. Oliver Budd’s design was chosen as a result of public consulation and funded as a percentage of the build costs for the centre.

The Borough Council used the prize money on an educational project, utilising mosaic techniques and working in partnership with local schools.
